Representation

Gender:

In terms of our opening sequence, it portrays to the audience, a very male dominated world of crime due to the fact that the three characters we come across are all male. The two Antagonists are both killed by the protagonist in a bitter revenge against his dead wife and daughter. This could imply that in fact our short opening sequence to a film does not represent total gender equality as the wife and daughter of the protagonist are both dead before the film has even started. Many male viewers might prefer to watch this due to lack of gender equality (in our opening) but women viewers will still certainly enjoy this style of film.

Social:

There is a social heirachy in our opening sequence as their is a clear divide between the two antagonists. The second antagonist is clearly of a higher position than the first one suggesting that he has control over him. The second antagonist is also of a higher position than the protagonist and this
is shown through the way he dresses. He dresses extremely sharply, with a slick suit and tie suggesting he comes from wealth, where as the protagonist is clearly effected by something and this becomes apparent in the rest of the film.

Physical aspects:

Lots will be found out about each character through their physicality. The first antagonist is certainly quite paranoid and jumpy in the alleyway scene and this will be shown by him looking over his shoulder a lot.

The second antagonist is much more confident and this is clearly shown through his physicality. His social position, which as previously mentioned is higher than the other two character is also shown through his more stoic, upright posture. His facial expression's will also reflect his confidence and position as he will be looking at the protagonist in a condescending way due to the fact that he thinks he is better than him.

The protagonist is much more normal in his physical actions. Not only will this allow the audience to connect with him unlike the other characters in our opening but will also create this idea of an 'everyday hero'. We want people to see him as a normal person who is getting revenge for a greivance he has suffered. (his wife and daughter, which will be suggested through a picture in the kitchen scene.)
